I
consider myself an avant-garde artist with an eclectic
range of fresh moving styles and forms that stem from
my many influences. I currently express myself through
precious metal jewelry pieces that I make by hand. Other
materials can be anything from rare and unusual stones
to copper wire or found objects. My focuses in jewelry
making are unusual combinations of color, movement,
and texture.
Mother
Nature is by far my biggest influence. I grew up planting
and harvesting seeds with my family, watching each life
cycle with fascination. My family also regularly went
backpacking and camping during my youth. I still love
to lounge in the dirt with the caterpillars and watch
the trees dance in the wind. I will even now stop in
my tracks to watch the beauty of a red beetle climbing
a leaf or a flower closing its petals in the sunset.
Architecture
also plays a very active role in my jewelry design--often
an entire building or a strong design line in a structure
will become a starting point for a piece of jewelry.
I hold a master's degree in Architecture, and a bachelor's
in Interior Design; both from California Polytechnic
State University in beautiful San Luis Obispo, California.
My
third primary influence is people. From watching a dancer
flirt with the air to a dear old friend taking siesta,
people flow through life in the most lovely ways. It
is also fascinating to see how other people interpret
beauty, from a master goldsmith to a landscape architect.
In
addition to jewelry I enjoy creating sculpture, primarily
in metal, clay, or sand. My two-dimensional artworks
have been extremely gratifying, some of which are shown
on this site. I prefer oil or pastel paint sticks which
I manipulate with my fingers.
